The Best New Crime Fiction: March 2019
New mystery book releases for March are here, and of course, I’ve got thrillers for you, too. Actually, let’s say I’ve rounded up great crime fiction new releases since I have a little bit for a lot of different reading tastes under the crime umbrella: historical mysteries, thrillers, cat-and-mouse, spy, and a small-town mystery.
Have you been anticipating the next Harlan Coben thriller? Do I have good news for you! That is, if you’re okay with basically a parent’s worst nightmare.
Simon Greene’s daughter Paige is in an abusive relationship and is abusing drugs when she breaks ties with her family. Greene tries to approach her one day, and she flees, leaving him no choice but to follow into the dark world she’s trapped in to try and save her. But is that putting the rest of his family in danger? You can always count on some twists from Coben.
If you’re a fan of solid mysteries and historical fiction, you need to be reading this series! Set in the 1920s it follows Captain Sam Wyndham, who is a former Scotland Yard detective with PTSD from the Great War, and is now solving crimes in Calcutta, India—which is under British rule. As he tries to navigate the politics of the time and keep his opium addiction secret, he must solve two murders—one he can’t even reveal knowing about because it was in an opium den. And you can’t have a great detective without a great sidekick, so enter Indian Sergeant Banerjee, who is just delightful.
While we impatiently wait for the season two tv adaptation—omg, what is going to happen?!—we can feed our Killing Eve obsession with the book sequel! It's more intense fun as Villanelle continues her murderous ways, of course, and Eve continues the chase to find her—while also discovering a senior MI5 officer is working for the Twelve. I can’t get enough of Killing Eve!

Give me all the small towns stuffed with secrets and mysteries, please and thank you! With Transom Shultz missing from his Pennsylvania town of Fallen Mountains, it’s only a matter of time before his secrets begin to surface, forcing others to fear the secrets they themselves are hiding will come out next…Seriously, I am a sucker for dark novels where secrets are gonna explode out.
Is your life missing the thrills of international espionage? 'Cause I can fill that void for you—or better yet, Christopher Reich can, with his Simon Riske sequel. This time Simon Riske, a freelance spy, will find himself in Monte Carlo, where criminal gamblers are targeting casinos, and an heiress's son has been kidnapped. Why is Riske perfect for the job? Well, he was once a criminal himself, and if you can think like a criminal…
Danish author Sara Blaedel, known for her Louise Rick procedural series, has a new recent series following Ilka Jensen: a woman who moves from Denmark to Wisconsin after her estranged father left her a funeral home. I know! Of course, there’s going to be dead bodies, but Jensen didn’t think it would be a murder that may somehow be linked to her father that would put her own life in danger. Not to mention her father’s family is not happy to see her, nor did she know they existed.
