Vampires are Back: Here’s What We’re Reading

It’s the renaissance we’ve been waiting for. Vampires are back. If you’ve been anywhere online, you may have noticed horror stealing in the show over the last year. There have been so many amazing horror debuts, and this year you can expect to encounter a lot more, including vampires.

A favorite in classic horror, vampires are coming back in full swing across multiple genres. In YA Fantsay there was the recent A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal showcasing illegal bloodhouses. Vampires are even showing up in romance again with Bride by Ali Hazelwood.

In horror and suspense, readers can expect to find their vampires more diverse and vicious than ever, with lyrical and intoxicating worlds that break the mold and give a fresh take on a beloved monster. Here are the vampire horror novels on our reading list, including our favorite horror and more.

When an ex-catholic woman develops a sexual relationship with a vampire, she is forced to confront the memories that haunt her religious past. Struggling to deal with the familial trauma of her Catholic upbringing, hotel cleaner, Noelle, travels to the Isle of Bute. There, she meets a man who claims to be a vampire, and a relationship blooms between them based solely on confession.

But as talk turns sacrilegious, and the weather outside grows colder, Noelle struggles to come to terms with her blasphemous sexuality. She becomes hounded by memories of her past: her mother’s affair with the local priest, and the part she played in ending it.
